CulturePolis organized with great success on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, in the Mucilipality of Corfu Company Conference Centre in Faliraki the first Consultative Committee SUSTCULT Corfu / Old Town meeting, which is foreseen in the European project SUSTCULT {Achieving SUSTainability through an integrated approach to management of CULTural heritage}. This project aims to improve the efficiency of management of cultural heritage in South-Eastern Europe, particularly where there are UNESCO World Heritage UNESCO, as the Old Town of Corfu.
More than 40 people, representatives of public agencies, professional organisations and citizens responded to the call and were informed in detail about the actions and expected results of the project SUSTCULT. Great interest was caused by the presentations on the opportunities offered by research and studies project activities in the direction of improving the management of cultural heritage through education, new methodology and management tools and new technologies. It is worth noting the very active participation of attendees in an open debate about how, through public consultation will create synergies for the benefit of Corfu. Regional Councelor Mr. Giannakouris attended and welcomed the event behalf of the Regional Governor of Ionian Islands Mr. Spirou, conveying the great interest of the Region for an active participation and support in the actions and initiatives that CulturePolis is launching in Corfu and the Ionian Islands in the framework of SUSTCULT. The meeting was attended by local authorities key figures,, representatives of professional and citizens organisations such as the president of the Commercial Association of Corfu Mr. Mitsialis, Deputy Regional Director HATTA and Regional Councelor Mr. V. Kontos, the president of the Architects Association of Corfu Mrs Tsolakou, the head of Minisry of Culture Service (21EBA) Mrs Rigakou etc. and several citizens. Warm greetings were also sent by the Corfu MP, Nikos Dendias, the City of Venice, lead partner of SUSTCULT, and the UNESCO Office in Venice, participating in SUSTCULT as official observer. |
